4 weeks ago, our family decided to make a change. We needed to get healthy. We needed to become more active. We needed to lose some serious weight. After lots and lots of research, we decided to try the "Protein Power" diet. It is a low carb, high protein diet. During this first phase, we are trying reset our metabolism and control blood pressure, blood sugar, etc. When we first started, my blood pressure shot up. Even when I was pregnant with Aden, my blood pressure was never that high. Doug's blood pressure did the exact opposite. Doug has recently been on two medications for his blood pressure and was hoping to one day be able to come off of them entirely. His blood pressure has now consistently been around 130 over 77. That is unbelievable for him!!! Another reason for this change is due to me being diagnosed with PCOS. If you don't know what it is, you can go research it. One of the side effects is infertility. If we ever want to have more kids, I need to get it under control.
To be honest, the first 2 weeks were really, really difficult. I was craving my sweets but everything, I mean EVERYTHING had a lot of carbs in it. We have had to modify a lot of what we eat but it has started to become a lot easier. Our typical day starts off with eggs, ham, bacon, sausage or an breakfast drink. Lunch is either leftovers from the previous night or a salad. Dinner we've had chicken, beef, steaks, etc. I'm still trying to adjust my cooking style to accommodate our changes. Tonight, I made a crustless pizza and it was awesome. I definitely satisfied my craving for pizza. I will post the recipe soon.
Since starting the diet, Doug has lost approximately 16 pounds and I have lost 10. Looking in the mirror, I don't see a huge change but my clothes are starting to fit better. I have found things to satisfy my sweet tooth. I have found things to satisfy my pizza craving. I am surprised that I don't crave bread. I usually LOVE bread. Both Doug and I feel so much better. No tummy troubles or anything. We'll continue to plug along and hopefully see even better results. Once we get passed this phase, we can increase our carbs. I'm anxious to get to that point :)
Wish you the best Beckie! The low carb/high protein/low cal diet worked amazingly to get my PCOS in control and things working how they need to so I could get pregnant. It was pretty much I hit a lower weight and my body said, "Ok, we can function normally now." Atkins bars, lettuce, turkey pepperoni and lots of water and crystal light became my best friends :)Keep us posted on how you're doing!
ReplyDeleteGo Beckie! I'm trying to also lose weight since I never really bothered after having E. Now 7 months after W it's a bit ridiculous. I will be following your progress as it's super inspiring!
DeleteGood job Beckie! That's great that you've lost 10lbs! (as of this post). A co-worker of mine is doing Atkins and lost a ton of weight. My problem is sticking to one plan. The low carb thing is the key. Keep up the good work and let us know your progress.
